Beta Test Results: Delayed Actions for Tactical Flexibility

One of the most exciting changes to Warleague’s combat system is the introduction of Delayed Actions, replacing the old Parry and Overwatch tags.
Previously, players had to declare defensive or reaction-based actions in advance, which could feel restrictive and overly complex. Now, players can simply delay action points and spend them later when the opportunity arises.

How Delayed Actions Work:

  • Instead of declaring specific reactions, players can store action points to be used at any time when triggered by enemy movement or attacks.
  • Delayed actions can be used for:
    • Parrying melee attacks when an enemy strikes.
    • Overwatch fire against enemies moving into range.
    • Triggering hero abilities that require setup.

Why This is an Improvement:

  • More Tactical Flexibility: Players can decide on the spot how to use their reserved actions, rather than committing early.
  • Faster Turns: The old system required tracking multiple reaction states, whereas this simplifies everything under one mechanic.
  • More Strategic Depth: Some abilities now allow action delay chaining, setting up powerful counterattacks or strategic repositioning.
This system streamlines reaction-based combat while still allowing deep tactical play.
